What’s biting, when?
The Florida Keys offer world-class sight fishing throughout the year, with every season bringing something different to the flats. Bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, and redfish all play a part, making each trip unique depending on the time of year and conditions.
The chart below gives a high level overview of what species generally fish best in each month.
Spring
Spring marks the start of the legendary tarpon migration and is one of the most exciting times to be on the water. Huge schools of migrating tarpon move through the Keys, creating incredible sight-fishing opportunities. It's also prime time for bonefish on the flats, with March often being one of the best months of the year to target these powerful and notoriously spooky fish.
Summer
Summer aka “Slam season” brings the greatest variety of fishing opportunities. Bonefish, tarpon, permit, snook, and redfish can all be found, making it the perfect season for anglers looking for species diversity. Warm water and low winds keep fish and anglers happy, just make sure to hydrate!
Fall
As water temperatures begin to cool and water levels rise, the flats come alive with snook and redfish. Bonefish and permit remain strong targets, while juvenile tarpon fishing can provide excellent action first thing in the morning. Fall offers a great mix of steady fishing and comfortable weather.
Winter
Winter is all about bending the rod and having fun. Cooler temperatures bring opportunities to catch multiple species in a single day, from redfish and trout to sharks and tripletail. It's an ideal time for families and anglers of all skill levels, with plenty of opportunities to stay busy and bend a rod from sunrise to sunset.
